28 Days Later... Storyline

A powerful virus escapes from a British research facility. Transmitted in a drop of blood and devastating within seconds, the virus locks those infected into a permanent state of murderous rage. Within 28 days the country is overwhelmed and a handful of survivors begin their attempts to salvage a future, little realising that the deadly virus is not the only thing that threatens them.

• The scene when Major West reveals his plans for Hannah and Selena to Jim was written by 'Cillian Murphy' (qv), 'Christopher Eccleston' (qv) and 'Alex Garland' (qv) the night before it was shot. A different scene had been scripted and shot, but no one was happy with it, especially the two actors.
• The symbol used for this film is the international symbol for blood-borne biohazard.
• The flashback scenes of Jim's parents were shot on Super 8mm film.
• This is Brendan Gleeson's second role in films about deadly viruses. The other was _Mission: Impossible II (2000)_ (qv).
• The last scene (the scene at the cottage in the lakes) was shot in standard 35mm.
