Goal! trivia

'Michael Winterbottom' (qv) was the original director of the film. Production had actually begun when he left the project because the Producers demanded the script to be finished prior to commencing Principal Photography.
The role of main character Santiago was originally going to be played by 'Diego Luna (I)' (qv) but he left to work on other projects. 'Kuno Becker' (qv) actually called Diego before he took the role to hear Diego's reasons for not taking the role.
'Stellan Skarsgård' (qv) was cast in the film, but when 'Michael Winterbottom' (qv) left the project, so did Skarsgård. He stated that: "The only reason I wanted to do the movie was to work with Winterbottom."
'Brian Johnson (XIV)' (qv) of 'AC/DC' (qv) has an appearance in this film as a Geordie fan. Before AC/DC, he sang in the band "Geordie".
The final scene where Santiago scores to win the game against Liverpool F.C. is the actual goal scored by Laurent Robert in real life. It is noticeable that Santiago, a right footed player throughout the movie, shoots with his left foot in this scene.

Interstate 60 Storyline

Executive Decision Storyline

Terrorists take over a 747 bound from Athens to Washington D.C., supposedly to effect the release of their leader. Intelligence expert David Grant suspects another reason and convinces the military that the 'plane should not be allowed to enter U.S. airspace. An assault mission is devised, using a specially equipped 'plane designed for mid-air crew transfers, and Grant finds himself aboard the 747 with a team of military anti-terrorists who have to defuse a bomb and overpower the terrorists.

Executive Decision plot

Some Arabs hijack an airliner and demand the release of their leader who is in American custody. They also intend to land in Washington for refueling. At the Pentagon, everyone there advises the National Security Advisor that they should let the plane land and then let the counter terrorist team of Colonel Austin Travis take them out. However, David Grant, an intelligence expert believes that this whole thing is a smokescreen. Grant believes that the Arab leader was abducted and brought to the Americans by his second in command, who is a fanatic. Also, that he has in his possession a biological weapon that could wipe out Washington and that it's on the plane. Now they have only two choices let them land and hope Grant is wrong or shoot the plane down along with every one on board. Colonel Travis suggests that they use a new plane that the military uses to transport men from it onto another aircraft while in flight. With no other option Travis is given the go ahead. Travis asks that Grant accompany him so that he can give them whatever info he can provide. However, it appears that Travis has another reason for bringing Grant along. It seems that awhile back they were sent on a mission to retrieve the biological weapon, but, in the end found that the weapon not there - one of Travis' men was also killed. It was Grant's Intel that sent them there. Now the aircraft link-up seems to be going well until the plane starts to break and fall apart. Half of the team including Travis doesn't make it. The ones that do (including Grant), and the man who built the plane they were on, have to carry out the mission. Unfortunately, some important equipment (communication link, knock out gas) didn't make it, so they have to do it the hard way. At the same time, the Pentagon, unsure if the men made it, have to again decide whether to let them land or shoot the plane down.

Quarantine Storyline

Television reporter Angela Vidal (Carpenter) and her cameraman (Harris) are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. After a routine 911 call takes them to a small apartment building, they find police officers already on the scene in response to blood curdling screams coming from one of the apartment units. They soon learn that a woman living in the building has been infected by something unknown. After a few of the residents are viciously attacked, they try to escape with the news crew in tow, only to find that the CDC has quarantined the building. Phones, internet, televisions and cell phone access have been cut-off, and officials are not relaying information to those locked inside. When the quarantine is finally lifted, the only evidence of what took place is the news crew's videotape.

FAKE: When the cameraman bludgeons the zombie to death with the camera, there is a quick shot of his shoes. Blood is everywhere, but his sneakers are clean.
FAIR: Power to the building has been cut, yet the elevator still works. One character briefly mentioned that the building has a back-up generator, most likely to assist evacuation during emergencies. A pre-programmed back-up system explains why the elevator stops at each floor, and why the doors take so long to close.
FAKE: Near the end, when Angela and Scott get into the room with lab equipment and newspaper articles on the walls, one article with the headline "Doomsday Cult Suspected in Weapons Lab Break In" is a real article. The real headline is "Dead by 34: How AIDS and Starvation Condemn Zimbabwe's Women to An Early Grave" by Daniel Howden, written Nov 17, 2006.
SYNC: When the bio-suited CDC doctors enter the building, you hear the sounds of a self-contained breathing apparatus. However, the doctors are wearing standard gas masks with NBC filters, which are almost silent and don't use an external air supply.
CHAR: In the United States, it is illegal for a law enforcement official to order someone not to film or photograph something.

Crank goofs

CONT: During the convertible chase, Chev fires out the passenger window at one of the cars. A moment later, the car swings left around a curve, and the passenger window is up. After the second car wrecks, the passenger window is down again.
CONT: In the beginning, Chev wakes up to his cell phone ringing. When he finishes watching the DVD and rushes out the door, his cell is ringing again, yet when the phone is shown, it only says "1 unanswered call".
CHAR: When Chev is administering the shot of epinephrine at the hospital, he goes to the trouble of finding a vein. Epinephrine has an immediate effect, he could have injected it anywhere.
FAIR: SPOILER: It seems that having fallen from a helicopter he would not have had enough time to do all the things he's done (fighting, dialing, leaving a message, etc.). But, Chev's total falling time was 60-90 seconds (depends on how you consider the slow motion and the fight in the air editing) which means that the helicopter's altitude was 3100-4800 meters. This is well inside the service ceiling of Eurocopter AS350 Ecureuil Helicopter used in this scene (5100 meters). So, theoretically, there was enough time during the fall.
CONT: When Chelios lifts the television after seeing the "Fuck You"-video there are no wires or cables attached to it.

Crank trivia

In the restaurant scene, when 'Jason Statham' (qv) was explaining to 'Amy Smart' (qv) what he did, her hiccups were genuine.
The phone Chev is using is a Nokia 8800 Scirocco Edition.
Directors 'Mark Neveldine' (qv) and 'Brian Taylor (V)' (qv) operated both "a" and "b" cameras, where one would get a wide shot and the other would get a closeup shot.
There are a number of references to 80's arcade games in the film. In the opening credits there are flashes of arcade boot up sequences and the high score table of _Robotron: 2084 (1982) (VG)_ (qv) is briefly displayed. Verona's sidekick is seen playing _Berzerk (1980) (VG)_ (qv) in the car. The humanoid graphic of Berzerk is also displayed on the male toilet door Chev enters.
The overhead satellite images have the Google Earth logo on them, complete with the 2006 copyright.

Last Man Standing Storyline

A few locals killed, too, and a double-dealing Commandant named Ramirez. But the man I'm concerned about was an American on the border patrol. He had a family. Well liked by his brother officers. I guess he strayed a little bit in some departments, but he was an officer of the law, just the same.

Last Man Standing goofs

FACT: Smith carries two Colt 45. s that hold 7+1 rounds or 14+2 rounds. Smith fires way more bullets than that.
FACT: At the second to last battle at the Strozzi place, you can see John's 45. The action goes back and locks several times, and yet, he still fires when it is back.
FAKE: When Jacko slams the double doors shut on the room where the captured and beaten John Smith is being held the locks are visible on the John Smith side of the doors. Later the locks are shown, properly, on the opposite side.
CONT: At the very beginning of the movie there is a shot of Smith driving towards town and there is nothing but desert. In the next scene we see power poles following the road into town.
CREW: (From 1:13:30 to 1:13:40) In the opening scenes of "Ira, You Are The Man", the sprinkler system used to make it rain has two of the sprinkler heads and piping clearly visible at the top of the screen where the lightning is flashing.

Deliverance plot

Midnight Express goofs

FACT: SPOILER: The plate on the police truck carrying Billy to prison after he's caught trying to escape has four errors. First, the blank between the alpha characters and the numeric characters that follow is missing. Second, in the year 1970 when the movie is set, plates in Istanbul had not yet reached YY (they advance chronologically from AA to ZZ). Third, plates in Istanbul are framed with a thick line of a color same as the letters -- the plate in the movie has no frame. Four, most seriously, police vehicle plates have white characters on a black background -- in the movie, the plate is just the opposite.
FACT: The Turkish spoken by ostensible Turks portrayed in the film is uniformly broken. The actors are obviously not Turkish; sometimes the language is so broken it is difficult for native speakers to understand.
CREW: Boom operator visible chasing[?] as he climbs a path by the prison wall.
DATE: The "fez" hat worn by several Turkish men in the movie has been extremely rare in Turkey since 1925 when it was abolish by Kemal Ataturk (the leader and founder of the Republic of Turkey) in an attempt to "westernize" the country. This was one of the reform actions of those times.
DATE: The movie is set in 1970. When Billy Hayes makes a visit to the toilet at the airport to wash his face, there is a poster on the wall showing a shot of the Bosphorus Bridge which was built in 1973.

Many of the scenes in the forest are allusions to or recreations of scenes in the 'Björk' (qv) music video "Human Behavior", also directed by 'Michel Gondry' (qv).
'Steven Soderbergh' (qv) was first interested in directing 'Charlie Kaufman' (qv)'s script back in late 1996, when Kaufman was still trying to get _Being John Malkovich (1999)_ (qv) produced. Soderbergh's considerations for casting were for 'David Hyde Pierce' (qv) in the role of Nathan Bronfman, 'Chris Kattan (I)' (qv) in the role of Puff (likely due to his character Mr. Peepers on Saturday Night Live at the time), and 'Marisa Tomei' (qv) in the role of Lila Jute. Pride and Glory goofs

CONT: At the hospital, Fran Sr. and Ray are in a restroom. Fran washes his hands and struggles a bit to reach in and pull a paper towel from the dispenser. Four or five times the camera cuts back from Ray to Fran and the dispenser alternately has the towels hanging out, then tucked in, then hanging out again.
CONT: SPOILER: When Kenny Dugan shoots a man in the convenience store, he only shoots once but the killed man has two shot wounds.
CONT: The video in the interrogation by IAB was shot using a widescreen video camera, but when it's watched on TV, it's 4:3.
CONT: In the scene where Ray is staking out the junkie informant in the Santa hat to find Tezo, when he he jumps out of the car and starts running, he has an empty, unsnapped and flapping holster on his left hip (rear view) but is not carrying a weapon in his hand. When we next see him, he has the holster on his right hip, gun in it and snapped closed. He then un-holsters his weapon from that left hip holster when he readies to enter the building.

Tideland Storyline

Vampires plot

As Valek knew Jack's name, Jack knows that the vampires are up to something big. Together with his only living colleague Tony Montoya, Katrina, a hooker who will turn into a vampire soon, and newly assigned unexperienced greenhorn priest Father Adam Guiteau he sets out to find the black cross first. If they fail, vampires can walk in the sun from then on.

New Jack City Storyline

In 1989, Nino Brown, a small time drug dealer, is convinced by one of his fellow thugs that the wave of the future is in the cocaine derivative, crack. Brown sees potential in crack and sets out to establish himself as chief kingpin by killing off his rivals and even going as far as to take over a whole apartment complex. Out to stop him are undercover cops Scottie Appleton and Nick Paretti. Appleton especially wants to get Nino because of the fact that he murdered Scottie's mother as part of a gang initiaton. Also involved is Pookie, a former crackhead who wants to bring down Nino as well.

The highest grossing independent feature of 1991.
This movie was the first theatrically released feature film that 'Mario Van Peebles' (qv) had ever directed.
'Ice-T' (qv) almost refused the role as Scottie because he felt that if the film was a failure it would negatively affect his rap career. During an interview with MTV's 'Kurt Loder' (qv) back in 1990, Ice T stated to Loder that he hated the police due to his past connection with the Crips. However, not only was the film a hit, but it also proved to give him his huge break as an actor.
Story is largely based on real-life Detroit gang, The Chambers Brothers. Writer 'Barry Michael Cooper' (qv) got the idea for the film after visiting Detroit and learning about the gang's exploits.

Monster Storyline

A dark tale based on the true story of Aileen Wuornos, one of America's first female serial killers. Wuornos had a difficult and cruel childhood plagued by abuse and drug use in Michigan. She became a prostitute by the age of thirteen, the same year she became pregnant. She eventually moved to Florida where she began earning a living as a highway prostitute—servicing the desires of semi-truck drivers. The tale focuses on the nine month period between 1989 and 1990, during which Wuornos had a lesbian relationship with a woman named Selby. And during that very same time, she also began murdering her clientele in order to get money without using sex. This turned the tables on a rather common phenomena of female highway prostitutes being the victims of serial killers—instead Wuornos, herself, carried out the deeds of a cold-blooded killer.

In Welville, at Battle Creek, eccentric rich Dr. John Harvey Kellogg (a historical figure) runs a stylish health farm for the wealthy, an idea ahead of his time, based on extreme vegetarianism, neither sex, masturbation or even sensual stimulation, but laughing therapy and purging the 'polluted' body, mainly by exercises, often in open air, vicious diet, his invention corn flakes, laxatives, anal yogurt cure, enemas and brutal mechanical cleansing. Eleanor Lightbody drags her sickly, incredulous husband Will along to the therapy; the couple is almost immediately separated and getting horny for more available members of the opposite sex. Kellogs stubbornly willful adopted son (among over 30 kids) George is a filthy embarrassment, paid off just to stay away. Charles Ossining panics when arriving in Battle Creek he finds his aunt's fortune made him partner in the empty shell- health food company Per-fo, not the planned corn-flakes factory; however with a former Welville-employee and George's name they hope to get rich from their own cornflakes brand. When an electric therapy goes fatally wrong and several other patients die, Will's incredulous reluctance turns to panic...

Saving Sarah Cain Storyline

When Sarah Cain, a self-involved big-city newspaper columnist, travels to Pennsylvania for the funeral of her Amish sister, she soon discovers that she is the legal guardian of her five Amish nieces and nephews. Rather than choose to move to Lancaster County to finish raising them there herself, or let them be separated by the foster care system, Sarah decides to take them with her back to Portland where she believes she can make a new life for them. However, she soon realizes that the modern world has forced them to compromise who they are, and that she has moved them there for all the wrong reasons - a motive which is soon exposed - because secrets can really never be kept secret. In order to find her own redemption, she knows she must make a choice to give them back their lives in Amish Country. CONT: In the scene where Jim holds Flaco and his crew to gun point, we see both Jim and Mike walk towards the car. SYNC: In the getaway chase after the bank robbery, you can hear the tires screeching even though it is on a dirt road.
CONT: When casing the exterior of Boyle's office building, Varrick pulls his car to the curb before buying flowers for Fort; in the long shot, there are no cars behind him, but in the cut to a closeup, several cars are lined up behind.
SYNC: During the chase scene between Baker's sedan and Matthau's bi-plane, the tires of the sedan 'screech' repeatedly as though they were running on pavement, while the terrain is sandy desert scrub.
CONT: In an exterior shot, Molly is seen entering a Chinese restaurant from across the street. But in the reverse shot of him entering restaurant, there's suddenly a red panel behind him, blocking the view of whatever was across the street.

Night and the City Storyline

Robert DeNiro and Jessica Lange are the most impossible couple. He's a failed lawyer. She's a common waitress. Together they get in a downward spiral, as they can't seem to deal with there problems. Night and the City trivia

'Martin Scorsese' (qv) was originally set to direct but dropped out. In fact, it was Scorsese who recruited screenwriter 'Richard Price (I)' (qv) to write a draft. According to an interview with Neal Gabler, Price said, "[Scorsese] felt like he had already 'done' [Night in the City] in all his other films... there was no challenge for him." It would be another six years before Producer/Director 'Irwin Winkler' (qv) and 'Robert De Niro' (qv) became interested in making the film.
In the original draft, Harry Fabian ('Robert De Niro' (qv)) is killed by a stab wound at the end of the movie, which stayed true to the original 'Jules Dassin' (qv) film's ending. This was changed later during production.
This was the first of two films written by Richard Price that 'Martin Scorsese' (qv) left the helm as director. The second film was 'Clockers' in which Scorsese turned over the project to 'Spike Lee' (qv) so he could instead direct 'Casino'.

Night and the City plot

Harry Fabian is a fast-talking ambulance chaser. He sues and settles, looking to make it big as he carries on an affair with the wife of the owner of his Manhattan cafe hang out. While losing a case to a local mobster who fronts as a sports promoter, Fabian whiffs his future at a boxing gym - he decides to be an impresario. For protection from the mobster, he recruits the boss's older brother as his judge of talent, he books a hall, he orders posters. Soon he's in debt waiting for the big night to rake in the cash. His sweetheart wants to leave her husband, so she needs Fabian's help to get a liquor license. The mobster is making trouble. Can Fabian pull it all off?

Awake plot

The twenty-two year old Clay Beresford is a genius of finance secretly in love of his mother's secretary Sam Lockwood. Coach Carter Storyline

In 1999, Ken Carter, a successful sporting goods store owner, accepts the job of basketball coach for his old high school in a poor area of Richmond, CA, where he was a champion athlete. As much dismayed by the poor attitudes of his players as well as their dismal play performance, Carter sets about to change both. He immediately imposes a strict regime typified in written contracts that include stipulations for respectful behavior, a dress code and good grades as requisites to being allowed to participate. The initial resistance from the boys is soon dispelled as the team under Carter's tutelage becomes a undefeated competitor in the games. However, when the overconfident team's behavior begins to stray and Carter learns that too many players are doing poorly in class, he takes immediate action. FACT: No doubt for poetic license, a physical padlock has been put on the gym door by Kenny Carter to "lock out" his players from practice. In real life, Carter, as depicted a part-time walk-on coach, would not have the power to lock out Richmond High School's girls basketball team, wrestling team, badminton team and PE classes. Driving Miss Daisy Storyline

An elderly Jewish widow living in Atlanta can no longer drive. Her son insists she allow him to hire a driver, which in the 1950s meant a black man. She resists any change in her life but, Hoke, the driver is hired by her son. She refuses to allow him to drive her anywhere at first, but Hoke slowly wins her over with his native good graces. The movie is directly taken from a stage play and does show it. It covers over twenty years of the pair's life together as they slowly build a relationship that transcends their differences.

Driving Miss Daisy trivia

Author 'Alfred Uhry' (qv) based the story of Daisy and Hoke on his own grandmother Lena Fox and her chauffeur Will Coleman.
One of only three films to win the Oscar for best picture without also being nominated for best director. The other two are _Wings (1927)_ (qv) and _Grand Hotel (1932)_ (qv).
The 'Hans Zimmer' (qv) score was done completely with synthesizers, all of which he played. No orchestras were used.
Towards the end of the movie, viewers see that Boolie Werthan has put his mother's house for sale. The house is listed by Harry Norman Realtors, which is an actual real estate company in Atlanta, Georgia. It was started in the 1930s and is still in business today (1999) and operated by a descendant of Mrs. Harry Norman, the woman who founded the company.
'Jessica Tandy' (qv) won the Best Actress Oscar for her role as Daisy Werthan. At age 81, she is the oldest winner of a Best Actress Oscar.

Crying Freeman Storyline

A lethal assassin for a secret Chinese organisation, who sheds tears of regret each time he kills, is seen swiftly and mercilessly executing three Yakuza gangsters by a beautiful artist. She is captivated by the grace of his kill and later falls in love with him. Crying Freeman trivia

'Mark Dacascos' (qv) and 'Christophe Gans' (qv) choreographed the end sword fight.
Mark Dacascos does all his own stunts in the film.
'Julie Condra' (qv) and Mark Dacascos met and co-starred in this film, and then they married in real life.
Jason Scott Lee was originally wanted for the role but he had a three-picture obligation for Universal Pictures and could not commit to the project. Mark Dacascos lobbied for the part and eventually went on to became Christophe Gan's actor of choice for future and upcoming films.
Based on the manga Crying Freeman. There is also an anime based on the same manga, "Kuraingu furîman".

Hitman goofs

CONT: With the Interpol agents coming down from the private plane, you can hear the engines powering down but when you look at the jet turbines, you don't see them moving at all.
CONT: During the scene where 47 shoots the two bodyguards in the bathroom, he shoots the fat bodyguard once, though two bullet holes can easily be seen -- one on each shoulder blade.
CONT: When 47 and Nika return from the restaurant, there is no chest at the bottom of the bed, however when 47 returns from Udre's club, he throws his gloves down onto a chest at the bottom of the bed.
FACT: Since the movie is filmed in Bulgaria, many road signs are in Bulgarian, not Russian.
CONT: After Agent 47 finishes talking to Nika in the car, the scene cuts to the car from the rear driving away. The Audi that is driving away is an RS4 Cabriolet. It is the same car Agent 47 uses while going to the Palace of Udre but not the car which he stole from Belicoff's man. That was an Audi S5.

Vengeance Storyline
